Minutes of the May 27, 1999 Meeting
Marvin Schneider thanked Dan Boucher of Casio for sponsoring this meeting.
1. Marvin Schneider thanked all the members of the Executive Board
for all the work they did for AMAPS this semester.
2. Marvin thanked the six AMAPS authors of the new Math A curriculum.
The authors were Paul Cinco, Rhonda Eisenberg, Sharon Hoosak,
Lorraine Largmann, Harry Rattien and John Waters.
They all did this as a professional responsibility. He also said that
this is a work in progress and that comments and questions can be
sent either to him or to Harry Rattien and all correspondence
will be taken seriously.
3. Jeanette Tomasullo discussed the summer school and night school policy.
The Regents exam can now count as part of the final grade.
4. Judy Walsh from USI informed the group that USI is forming a
math, science, technology group to deal with the math, science
and technology issues. The meeting is on Wednesday, June 16 in the afternoon.
5. As we listened to the music from "Exodus", we honored the following people.
5.1 Marvin welcomed John Rodgers.
5.2 Marvin paid honor to Sandrea Assam who could not attend.
5.3 Steve Moresh could not attend, but he will be honored at a future meeting.
5.4 Paul Cinco spoke for Benny D'Aquila.
5.5 Marvin spoke for Lois Hyman.
5.6 Len Marguilies took the place of Ray Scacalossi (who was unable to attend)
and he spoke for Farrel Powsner.
5.7 Nancy Sigmund spoke for Tony Siciliano
5.8 Maureen Henry spoke for Nancy Sigmund.
5.9 Marvin read a statement from Howard Brenner (who could not attend)
for Alice Farkouh.
5.10Although he was not in attendance, Joe DeJesus was honored by AMAPS.
Marvin spoke of Mr. DeJesus' commitment to mathematics. Ken Duggan and
Lorraine Largmann also spoke about Mr. DeJesus.
6. Dan Boucher thanked everyone for coming. He introduced John Palero as
the new representative from Casio for NYC. Dan Boucher informed everyone of
the new products from Casio and the relationship of Casio to the
staff development programs in NYC.
Dan introduced Dr. John Kenelly of Clemson University who gave a professional talk and
a Powerpoint presentation on "Evolving Technology: Presenting for Understanding".
