Minutes of the October 17 General Meeting of AMAPS
1. Sharon Hoosak welcomed everyone to the first general meeting of the school year.
2. She thanked our host, Melody DeRosa, of Texas Instruments.
3. The borough representatives on the Executive Board introduced the new math assistant principals in their borough.
4. Sharon said that she wanted the meetings to address the concerns of all the members. She asked everyone for suggestions of topics they felt should be addressed this year, and asked everyone to sign up to work on one of the committees to be formed.
5. Linda Curtis-Bey, Acting Director of the Office of Math, Science, and Technology, spoke about several Department of Education initiatives. They are:
· Professional Development
· Lenses on Learning
· TI graphing calculator training
6. Three AMAPS members, Paul Cinco, Celia Foster, and Enric Kendall described a variety of UAPC and ATS Reports available and useful for every Mathematics Assistant Principal:
· EXAMSALL – From UAPC; math histories for every student sorted either alpha for the entire school for the office or alpha by subject class so each teacher can have it
· Roomgrid - From UAPC; entire listing of the school's master sorted by room
· Tchgrid – From UAPC; entire listing of each teacher's program sorted by teacher),
· Enrollment list – From UAPC; listing names, addresses, phone #, birth dates, 4 digit #, OSIS # parent's name and feeder school all sorted alpha by school
· RCOS – From ATS; listing alphabetical listing of each student and biofile in each cohort
7. Melody DeRosa, the Texas Instruments representative discussed the free TI resources available on the TI website. She also distributed wires necessary to download software programs that are available on line for the TI-83 Plus. She briefly demonstrated one of the downloadable program applications, or APPs.
8. Jeanette Tomasullo-Morelli, AP Math at the HS for Health Professions & Human Services, presented Casino Day, a project-based learning activity, which she has successfully done with her classes. Worksheets were distributed and she described how the materials were used. Samples of her student’s portfolios were available for viewing. She gave an Executive Board member in each borough a copy of a video of Casino Day in her classes.
